SHALBORNE A film by Caroline Corrie screening as part of National Cinema Weekend Our Weekend of cinema closes with a very special film shot on location in DEVON. SHALBORNE is Caroline Corrie’s Debut feature film. She is the writer, director, producer, lead actress, production designer, costume maker and more… Set in 1905 and filmed in Devon it is a micro, micro budget independent film which recently won ‘Best foreign Feature’ at the Female Eye film festival in Toronto at TIFF Lightbox and features in September’s edition of Devon Life magazine celebrating this ‘tour de force’. In 1905 in rural Devon, a cruel and lonely marriage to Lord Bartlett becomes too much for Helen to bear. Leaving her husband’s ancestral home, she treks across Dartmoor pushing her sick and ageing father on a cart. Taking refuge in a deserted barn, she is discovered by Lord Shalborne, who offers her temporary shelter on his estate. While a connection flourishes between them Helen finds she must risk everything to change her circumstances and discovers that courage may not be enough to challenge the patriarchal ideals of her time.
