At a Glance
- Minimal cookies — we only use strictly necessary cookies to keep you logged in, process payments securely, and remember your cookie consent choice.
- No advertising or tracking cookies — we do not use any advertising, profiling, or cross-site tracking cookies. Ever.
- Consent banner— our cookie banner blocks all non-essential cookies until you actively accept them. Browsing without clicking "Accept" means only strictly necessary cookies are set.
1. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They help the site remember your preferences, keep you logged in, and understand how the site is used. Some cookies are essential for the site to function; others are optional and require your consent.
In the UK, cookies are regulated by the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR) alongside the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR). PECR requires us to tell you about the cookies we use and, where they are not strictly necessary, obtain your consent before setting them.
2. Categories of Cookies
The table below summarises the categories of cookies and whether Dartmouth Live uses them.
| Category | Used by Dartmouth Live? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Yes | Authentication, payment security, consent record |
| Functional | Yes (minimal) | Remembers your preferred calendar view |
| Analytics | No | Not currently used — may be added in future with consent |
| Advertising | No — never | We will never use advertising or profiling cookies |
| Third-party | No | No third-party embeds, social widgets, or tracking pixels |
3. Cookies We Use — Full Detail
3.1 Strictly Necessary Cookies
These cookies are essential for the site to function. They do not require your consent under PECR because the site cannot operate without them.
| Cookie Name | Duration | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
sb-auth-token | 1 year | Supabase authentication — keeps you signed in to your venue dashboard |
sb-auth-token-code-verifier | Session | PKCE code verifier — used during the login flow to verify your identity securely. Cleared when you close your browser. |
dartmouthlive-cookie-consent | 12 months | Records your cookie consent choice so we don't ask you again on every visit |
__stripe_mid | 1 year | Stripe fraud prevention — helps Stripe detect and prevent fraudulent payment activity |
__stripe_sid | 30 minutes | Stripe session — maintains your payment session while you complete checkout |
3.2 Functional Cookies
Functional cookies remember choices you make to improve your experience. These require your consent and are only set if you accept non-essential cookies.
| Cookie Name | Duration | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
dl-calendar-view | 30 days | Remembers your preferred calendar view (list or grid) so it persists between visits |
3.3 Analytics Cookies
Dartmouth Live does not currently use any analytics cookies. If we introduce analytics in the future, we will update this policy, notify you, and request your consent before setting any analytics cookies.
3.4 Advertising Cookies
Dartmouth Live does not use advertising, remarketing, or profiling cookies. We will never use them. This is a community events platform, not an advertising-funded service.
3.5 Third-Party Cookies
We do not embed third-party content (such as social media widgets, YouTube videos, or tracking pixels) that would set cookies on your device. Where we link to external websites (e.g. venue websites or ticketing platforms), those links open in a new tab and are governed by those sites' own cookie policies.
4. Local Storage and Session Storage
In addition to cookies, modern browsers provide local storage and session storage — similar technologies that allow websites to store small amounts of data on your device. Supabase may use local storage or session storage to manage authentication tokens alongside cookies. These are covered by the same rules as cookies under PECR and are included in the consent choices described above.
5. Our Cookie Consent Banner
When you first visit Dartmouth Live, you will see a cookie consent banner with two clear options:
- Accept all cookies — sets both strictly necessary and functional cookies.
- Reject non-essential cookies— only strictly necessary cookies are set. The site will still work, but your calendar view preference won't be remembered between visits.
We do not use "cookie walls" that block access to the site. We do not assume consent from continued browsing. Only an active click on "Accept" constitutes consent for non-essential cookies.
6. How to Manage or Withdraw Consent
6.1 Via Our Cookie Banner
You can change your cookie preferences at any time by clicking the "Cookie Settings" link in the website footer. This will re-display the consent banner and allow you to update your choice.
6.2 Via Your Browser Settings
You can also manage or delete cookies through your browser settings. Below are links to instructions for the most common browsers:
| Browser | Instructions |
|---|---|
| Google Chrome | Manage cookies in Chrome |
| Mozilla Firefox | Clear cookies in Firefox |
| Safari (macOS) | Manage cookies in Safari |
| Microsoft Edge | Delete cookies in Edge |
| Safari (iOS) | Clear cookies on iPhone/iPad |
| Chrome (Android) | Manage cookies in Chrome for Android |
Please note that blocking strictly necessary cookies may prevent you from signing in to your venue dashboard or completing payments.
6.3 Do Not Track
Some browsers send a "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal with each request. There is currently no industry standard for how websites should respond to DNT signals. However, since Dartmouth Live does not use any tracking or advertising cookies, we effectively honour DNT by default.
7. Stripe Payment Cookies
When you make a payment through Dartmouth Live, Stripe (our payment processor) may set cookies on your device to prevent fraud and maintain your payment session. Specifically:
__stripe_mid— a persistent cookie (up to 1 year) that helps Stripe identify your device for fraud detection purposes. This cookie is set when the Stripe payment form loads.__stripe_sid— a session cookie (30 minutes) that maintains your payment session while you complete checkout. It expires shortly after you finish or leave the payment page.
These cookies are classified as strictly necessary because they are required for secure payment processing. They are set by Stripe and are governed by Stripe's Privacy Policy. We do not control the data Stripe collects through these cookies, but we have chosen Stripe as our payment provider because of its strong security and privacy standards.
8. Changes to This Cookie Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the cookies we use or for legal, regulatory, or operational reasons. When we make changes:
- We will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
- For material changes, we will give at least 14 days' notice before the changes take effect.
- If we introduce a new category of cookies (e.g. analytics), we will request your consent again via the cookie banner — your previous consent will not automatically cover new categories.
