Bella Cutts is 20 years old, Swiss-born, and has already lived more life than most. A childhood that took her from Sudan to Myanmar to Turkey before landing in the UK has shaped an artist with a genuinely singular perspective, and the songs to match. Witty, insightful and relatable, her lyrics carry real emotional weight: sometimes melancholic, sometimes anarchic, always with an irrepressible sense of fun. Her live style draws comparisons with Amy Winehouse and Rae, with a touch of Motown, soulful vocals and a charismatic stage presence that commands a room. She’s been doing it since she was eight years old, when she performed one of her own songs on a grand piano at a hotel in Yangon in front of an audience of military elite and jade mine owners, blissfully unaware that the song was a cheeky takedown of the Queen. Now gigging regularly at venues and festivals, with label interest, a management deal in place and a book ready for publication, Bella is very much one to watch.
